When we saw Billy Strings was playing at the Target Center in Minneapolis on Suzy’s birthday, it was a no brainer. The tickets were immediately bought. Next it was planning the weekend, which we knew would include spoiling Suzy for being such a good girl (wink, wink). This was sure to be a birthday weekend getaway for the books (and the blog).
On our adventures, we’re always looking for something a little spicy to add to the itinerary. Normally that means finding a sex club in town, but turns out Minneapolis doesn’t have any established ones. Tragic. The least we could do was go to Sex World, an iconic three-story adult emporium with glory holes and live go-go dancers. Except… they were closed.

Plan B: adult shops. We scoped out The Smitten Kitten and Bondesque, and then landed on Reddit, which pointed us to Ground Zero Nightclub, a gothic club with a horror vibe, dancing, and live BDSM shows. Thank you, Reditters! Friday just happened to be Nearly Nakey night, with a mistress doing floggings in their chapel. Yes, a chapel. Obviously, we had to check this out.
Billy booked us a gorgeous room at Hotel Ivy downtown, and after tacos at Masa & Agave we were ready for Ground Zero. I slipped on one of my favorites, a black lace negligee with thigh garters and Billy’s beloved crotchless fishnets, hidden under my little black dress.
Friday: A Birthday Weekend Getaway of Goth, Go-Go, and... Feeld?
The club was buzzing when we walked in. People were dressed to the nines and we saw a mix of gothic, BDSM, queer, and sexy. The vibe felt like a safe, welcoming playground for all of us freaks! The bar had everything from cocktails to mocktails (perfect for us non-drinkers), the dance floor was packed, and go-go dancers were working the crowd. We knew we'd found a spot we would happily return to and the night was just getting started.

We both opted for a mocktail, before walking to the back where the chapel was staged. There were packed pews, fun lighting, and a voluptuous woman tied up front and center while a leather-clad mistress worked her over with whips, floggers, and even dripping hot wax across her chest before scraping it off with a knife. It was a little intense but mesmerizing because you could tell both the submissive and the mistress were loving every second.
And then there was a plot twist. I look to my left and realize the guy sitting next to me is someone I’d been chatting with on Feeld. He just showed up, solo, no warning. Kinda bold, kinda sus, definitely not the vibe. I made the rookie mistake of telling him where we'd be before really confirming if he was someone we would want to meet. We asked where his partner was, who was linked on his profile, and he gave us an excuse that she didn't want to come out. Although we give him some credit for trying, when he asked us to dance later that evening, we politely shut him down and got back to the show.
Later, with a little encouragement, I ditched the dress and rocked my lingerie with all the other Nearly Nakey babes (including some trans women). Billy was encouraged to take his shirt off (it was quite hot in there with all of those bodies). Let's be real, Billy loves any opportunity to be nearly naked! We danced, mingled, made out, and had an absolute blast before heading back for a sexy hotel romp. (Yes, restraints and a little camera action were involved.)
Saturday: Strings, Flings & Sexy Things
Saturday morning started with birthday spankings, half in the morning, the rest saved for later. We had another Feeld chat going with the male half of a couple who were also going to the Billy show, which felt kind of serendipitous.

Before the concert, we hit 112 Eatery. We were there so early we practically qualified for the senior discount, but the food was out of this world and we wanted to have enough time to eat before the concert. The gnocchi with parmagiano reggiano was so soft and comforting I could have taken a nap in it, and the burrata toast with walnut pesto is getting recreated at home asap.
At one point I bonded with another table when we realized it was both of our birthdays and both of us were going to Billy Strings. Small-world magic like that always makes you feel like you're doing something right.

The concert itself was absolutely incredible. We will never turn down an opportunity to see Billy Strings, who just keeps getting better. His psychedelic bluegrass feels like pure joy and living in another world where there isn't a care. We danced, we cheered, we melted into the music and felt so lucky to be there to experience the feast for the senses.
Afterward, we swung by Gluek’s for the afterparty (where we ran into Feeld guy again, awkward cameo #2), then ended up back at Ground Zero for more dancing. It wasn’t as wild as Friday, but still fun. We had to get back to the swanky hotel, so Billy could give Suzy the rest of those spankings.
Sunday we closed the weekend in style with spa time at the Hotel Ivy. The hot sauna, lounging in robes sipping hot tea, and a couples massage was the perfect soft landing after a spicy, joyful, bluegrass-fueled birthday in the city.
At the end of the day, it’s not about where we go, what we wear, or even who we meet along the way. It's about how we choose to show up for each other and celebrate life out loud. Every birthday, every concert, every unexpected adventure is just another reminder that love should be lived boldly, joyfully, and without apology.
Did we end up inviting someone or someones into our swanky king-size bed that weekend? No (if you play in this world, you need to be tested regularly, folks). But that's not what this is about. It's about the journey, following nobody's rules but your own, and having the freedom to explore desires with your partner. The world will always try to quiet us down, but we’ll keep turning up the volume and being ourselves because loving loudly isn’t just fun, it’s necessary.
